This is a beginner Systeme.io tutorial: we'll go from an empty free account to a working sales funnel that collects emails, delivers a free PDF and sends a follow-up sequence automatically. No coding, no credit card. Plan facts below come from Systeme.io's official pricing page, checked October 18, 2026. Prefer to watch? The video version is embedded below.
Before you start
You need three things ready, and none of them cost money:
- A lead magnet — a short PDF, checklist or template that solves one small problem for one specific audience. Google Docs or Canva's free plan is enough to make it.
- A sender email address — ideally on your own domain (for example [email protected]), because emails from free webmail addresses are more likely to land in spam.
- About 60–90 minutes of focused time.
If you don't have a lead magnet idea yet, our free 7-day guide walks you through choosing one on day 1–2.

Get the free guide →Step 1: Create your free Systeme.io account
Go to Systeme.io and sign up with your email. According to the pricing page, the free plan never expires and does not require a credit card. During onboarding you'll be asked a few questions about your business; answer honestly, they only shape the suggestions you see.
Once inside, take two minutes to look at the main menu. The parts we'll use today are Funnels, Emails and Automations.
Try it yourself: open a free Systeme.io account (no credit card required, per Systeme.io). Affiliate link.
Start free on Systeme.io →Step 2: Basic settings you should do first
Open your profile settings and fill in the email (mailing) settings before you build anything:
- Sender name and sender email — use your name or brand, and the address you want replies to reach. Systeme.io will ask you to verify it.
- Physical address in the footer text — email laws such as CAN-SPAM require a postal address in marketing emails. Systeme.io has a footer text field for this.
- Domain authentication (recommended) — if you use your own domain, Systeme.io shows DNS records to add at your domain registrar. This helps your emails reach the inbox.
Step 3: Create the funnel
- Click Funnels → Create.
- Choose the goal for building an audience / collecting emails. Systeme.io will create a funnel with an opt-in (squeeze) page and a thank-you page.
- Give the funnel a clear internal name, such as "7-Day Guide funnel". Only you will see it.
A funnel in Systeme.io is just an ordered list of steps. Each step is one page with its own URL and settings.
Step 4: Edit the opt-in page
Open the first step and pick a template. Don't spend long choosing — you'll change almost everything. In the editor:
- Headline: one specific promise. "The 7-day plan to launch your first funnel for $0" beats "Welcome to my page".
- 3 bullets: what they'll get or be able to do after reading.
- Form: keep only first name and email. Every extra field lowers sign-ups.
- Button: say what happens: "Send me the free guide".
- Consent and privacy: add a short line that they'll receive emails, and link to your privacy policy.
If you already have your own website (like this one), Systeme.io also lets you create an Inline form step and paste its script into your site, so the form appears on your own pages. That's exactly how the form on our home page works.
AI prompt: "Write a headline, 3 benefit bullets and a button label for a free [lead magnet] that helps [audience] achieve [result]. Plain language, no hype, no income claims."
Step 5: The thank-you page
Open the second step. This page should do two jobs: deliver the freebie and suggest one next step.
- Upload your PDF and add a download button linking to it (or say "Check your inbox" if you deliver it by email).
- Add one next step: a video to watch, a group to join, or a recommended tool.
Then go back to the opt-in step and make sure the form redirects to this thank-you page after submission.
Step 6: Write the email campaign
Go to Emails → Campaigns and create a new campaign. A campaign is a sequence of emails sent automatically with delays. A simple, proven structure for 7 emails:
- Day 0: deliver the guide and say what to expect.
- Day 1: your short story — why you started and who you help.
- Day 3: one quick win they can do in 10 minutes.
- Day 5: the most common mistake and how to avoid it.
- Day 7: introduce the tool or offer that helps, honestly.
- Day 10: answer objections ("Is it really free?", "Do I need tech skills?").
- Day 14: recap and a clear final invitation.
Keep each email under about 200 words with one link. If an email contains an affiliate link, say so.
Step 7: Connect everything with an automation rule
This is the step beginners most often forget, and without it nobody receives your emails.
- Open the opt-in step of your funnel and find the Automation rules section.
- Trigger: Funnel step form subscribed.
- Action: Subscribe to campaign → choose the campaign you created. Optionally add a second action, Add tag, so you can segment later.
- Save.
Step 8: Test end to end, then publish
- Open the opt-in page in a private browser window and sign up with your own email.
- Check: did you land on the thank-you page? Does the download work? Did email #1 arrive — and in the inbox, not spam?
- In Contacts, confirm the new contact exists with the right tag.
- Repeat on your phone.
When everything works, share the opt-in page link (or your website) in your content: YouTube descriptions, blog posts and helpful community answers.

Get the free guide →Free plan limits to know
According to Systeme.io's pricing page (checked October 18, 2026), the free plan includes up to 2,000 contacts, 3 sales funnels, 1 blog, 1 course, 1 custom domain and unlimited email sends, with lower limits on some features such as 1 automation rule and 1 email campaign. The next plan, Startup, is listed at $17/month with 5,000 contacts and 10 funnels. Prices and limits can change, so always confirm on the official page. 5 beginner mistakes that break a new funnel
- No automation rule. The form collects emails but nobody is added to the campaign. Always test with a real sign-up.
- Unverified sender. If your sender address isn't verified (and your domain isn't authenticated), emails may go to spam or not send at all.
- A vague lead magnet. "Tips for success" doesn't get sign-ups. A specific checklist for a specific person does.
- Too many form fields. Ask only for first name and email. You can learn more about subscribers later through your emails.
- Waiting for perfect. A simple funnel that is live this week teaches you more than a beautiful one that launches in three months. Publish, then improve the headline and emails based on what you see.
One more habit worth building from day one: check your Systeme.io contacts list once a week. It shows whether people are signing up, which tags they have, and whether your sequence is running. If sign-ups are low, improve your traffic and your headline first; if sign-ups are fine but nobody clicks your emails, work on the email subject lines and the usefulness of each message.
FAQ
Do I need my own domain?
No. Your funnel pages get a Systeme.io address by default. A custom domain looks more professional and the free plan includes one.
Can I use Systeme.io with an existing website?
Yes — use an Inline form step and paste the script into your site, or link a button to your Systeme.io opt-in page.
How long until I get results?
It depends on your niche, offer and how consistently you create content. Nobody can honestly promise a timeline or income.
Bottom line
A working Systeme.io funnel is eight steps: account, settings, funnel, opt-in page, thank-you page, campaign, automation rule and a real test. You can finish all of it in one sitting on the free plan.
